Return and Earn

Beverage Container Collection Service for Home, Business, and Charity

return and earn

Brief History

Under part 5 of the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act, Return and Earn began rolling out in New South Wales as the state's container deposit scheme on December 1st of 2017. Funded by contributions from the beverage industry, it is a NSW Government initiative that aims to reduce beverage container litter in the state which made up 44% of the volume of all litter and cost more than $162 million to manage at the time of its introduction. By offering a 10 cent refund to consumers, citizens are incentivized to hold on to their eligible containers or pick up left behind, littered containers for deposition at return points across NSW. Participation can also involve the donation of containers to local charities, schools or community groups to help them fundraise. With ReCollect, the process can be made easier including for those who prefer to donate their container refunds to a cause of their choosing with our range of pickup and pricing options.

Why waste time waiting in line at the return point when you could be doing that thing you've been meaning to do. Let ReCollect do the dirty work while you keep your hands clean and still get your deposits back. It only takes 3 steps:

  • 1. Download the app or register online

    Download ReCollect from the App Store or Google Play, or visit our web app. Sign up and schedule a pickup by entering your address and donation preference.

  • 2. Enter your home address and pick a date

    The morning of your pickup day, put your bags outside. Use the directions area in the app to let the driver know where to find them or any other special directions (key code / “call me”).

  • 3. That’s it! Cash out or donate to charity

    We will count your bags and credit your account within 48 hours after pickup. We even show you what we counted! You can cash out via direct deposit or donate your refunds to a local charity!
